A Firefighter's Comments
I like the Chelsea E-Times. As a firefighter for Chelsea Fire Dept., I would like to tell you that the fire department is now in transition from volunteer to paid. Although the department still relies heavily on volunteers, Chelsea's growth will soon demand a full fledge paid department.
The department currently employs 2 professional firefighters from 6:00am til 6:00pm & 1 professional firefighter from 6:00pm til 6:00am. At least one of these firefighters is also a paramedic (generally the one that stays 6:00 a.m. til 6:00 a.m.) so that there is at least one paramedic/firefighter on duty around the clock. All of the paid firefighters are also employed by surrounding fire departments and all are very highly trained possessing a plethora of knowledge from HazMat to High Angle rescue to terrorism/weapons of mass destruction response.
I personally have been employed by Pelham Fire Department for 13 years, and I look forward to a career with Chelsea Fire Department. I would also like to say that Mayor Nivens has been extremely supportive of the fire department and residents of Chelsea should be proud of this fact. The fire department is also currently working on their own website and in the future you may like to provide a link in the e-times.
