High Speed Internet Access Has Come To Chelsea!

High speed internet access arrived in Chelsea right around Thanksgiving 2001. Not so long ago yet I am wondering how many people realize it. DSL allows your computer data coming from the internet be about 50 times faster than regular modem speeds. It allows you to be always connected to the internet without have to "dial up" every time you want to surf the internet. Another advantage is that you don't have to share your connection with the community around you. Why is that an advantage? Cable modems do share your connection. Conversely, the more people in your area begin using cable the slower your connection becomes. It's sort of like being in five o'clock traffic internet style. Although have any high speed hookup is faster than regular modems any day of the week even if your are on cable. DSL is purely your connection and yours alone. Not only that DSL shares your phone line. So if your home number is 678-whatever you keep your same number and "piggyback" that phone line with DSL. That means your wife can use the phone EVEN if you are using that same line surfing the internet! Now that's technology is worth it fi you need it!

There are some drawbacks to DSL is the limition of distance. Depending if you are with a certain distance of the "box" where it is located could you even qualify for DSL service. The "box" in Chelsea is located near Chelsea Middle School. From there, as the line goes, depends whether or not you are qualified to receive DSL services. I think that distance is 3 miles. I, happily, live and work almost next door to the "box".

Special satellite dishes are avaliable for those desparate individuals or business who need fast internet access from Earthlink. Call them for information. The cost is not outrageous but it does cost more. DSL service cost a residential customer about $45 extra per month in addition to the phone line. Commerical rates are, well, higher. Contact your favorite internet service provider for more information. We hope this helps your understanding. If not, well, we tried.
