Clovia W. Wheeler, a 19-year resident of Shelby County and former school teacher and information technology manager, has entered the race for Place 2 on the Shelby County Board of Education. She is the Democratic nominee for the position in the November general election.

“Our most valuable resource in this county is our children,” said Wheeler, mother of two. “If we want to ensure that all who live and work in Shelby County reach their greatest potential, we must start with enhancing our public education system to better meet the challenges of the future.”

Wheeler’s campaign platform addresses K-12 education and adult literacy.
“A successful education system addresses the needs of all of its residents. We want our children to have the preparation and tools for success,” Wheeler said. “We also want to have in place sufficient programs for adults who need to complete high school to take advantage of opportunities for advancement.”

Because she is now retired and working as a volunteer with civic and service groups, Wheeler said she has the time to devote to the school system.

“I’ve worked as a school teacher. I have owned a business, and I have been a manager in corporate America,” she said. “My first professional love is education. I am ready to return to serve in that field because I want to make a difference that lasts – for our children, for our future.”
