Fire Station #32 Opened

We are pleased to announce the opening of Chelsea Fire Department Station #32 on highway 69. The station opened in mid-August, and is staffed with two firefighter/medics, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The response time to emergency calls in the southern part of Chelsea has greatly reduced since opening the station.

The city has applied for a SAFER Grant with the Department of Homeland Security. The grant, if approved will allow Chelsea to hire 6 full time firefighter/medics, in which the major cost will be paid by the Federal Government for the first five years.

Chelsea recently received a grant from Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of firefighting equipment. The grant was approximately $125,000.00.

Chief D. Wayne Shirley has done an outstanding job and we look forward to continue working with him as the city grows in the future.

The city has budgeted $708,069 for the fire department for the fiscal year 2005-2006. This amount includes operational expenses and salaries.
