Did you know that Chelsea has a #1 Soccer Team in the Under 14 year old category - Chelsea "Sting"? The Sting team plays top notch soccer teams from Pell City, Tuscaloosa, Hoover, Homewood and Trussville. Mayor Niven, were you aware of the soccer talent you have in your city? I invite you to attend a game to see first hand the level of talent here in Chelsea.
It's way past time that the City of Chelsea sit up and take notice. How about a soccer field for these kids to call their own? We have some highly dedicated parents, led by Mr. David Sharp, who spends hours and hours of their personal time ensuring that our children have the opportunity to play soccer in a fun and exciting environment. The Sting and a few others are competitive teams and we also have purely recreational teams for boys and girls from age 4 - 15.
Both our boys play soccer and basketball. My oldest son is passionate about soccer so I bothered that there is no attention being paid to this sport in our schools. Jr. High doesn't have soccer at all and High School soccer is an afterthought. Take a look at the Sunday, May 11 edition of the Birmingham News, sports section. Area high schools are highlighted for their accomplishments in soccer. Soccer is quickly becoming a huge sport in the state and Chelsea needs to jump on board sooner rather than later.
